Adjunctive nivolumab in combination with antibiotic therapy for the management of refractory melioidosis in a patient with metastatic breast cancer and chemotherapy-induced pancytopenia.

Burkholderia pseudomallei, the causative agent of melioidosis, is intrinsically resistant to multiple classes of antibiotics and primarily affects immunocompromised individuals, such as those with poorly controlled diabetes or malignancies. In this case, a 58-y-old female farmer with poorly controlled diabetes (HbA1c of 11.4%), metastatic breast cancer with chemotherapy-induced pancytopenia and disseminated melioidosis showed no improvement despite receiving antibiotics and supportive care.

Machine Learning Predictions of Recovery in Bilingual Poststroke Aphasia: Aligning Insights With Clinical Evidence.

Background: Predicting treated language improvement (TLI) and transfer to the untreated language (cross-language generalization, CLG) after speech-language therapy in bilingual individuals with poststroke aphasia is crucial for personalized treatment planning. This study evaluated machine learning models to predict TLI and CLG and identified the key predictive features (eg, patient severity, demographics, and treatment variables) aligning with clinical evidence.

Methods: Forty-eight Spanish-English bilingual individuals with poststroke aphasia received 20 sessions of semantic feature-based naming treatment in either their first or second language.

Methods: This retrospective observational study was conducted at Department of Neurosurgery, Punjab Institute of Neurosciences (PINS), Lahore, Pakistan from January, 2018 to December, 2022. It is a non-probability based consecutive case series.

The Active Ingredients of Semantic Naming Treatment: Evidence From Mandarin-English Bilingual Adults With Aphasia.

Purpose: Following the Rehabilitation Treatment Specification System (RTSS) framework, the current study investigated the active ingredients in the modified semantic feature analysis (mSFA) targeting either noun or verb retrieval in Mandarin-English bilingual adults with aphasia (BWA).

Method: Twelve Mandarin-English BWA completed mSFA treatment for nouns and verbs. Eight of them completed both noun and verb treatment, while four completed either type of treatment.
