The time course of LH, FSH, prolactin, estradiol, hydrocortisone, insulin and catecholamine levels in the blood was followed up in 62 patients of a reproductive age after surgical switch-off of the ovaries. Reflex therapy (electroacupuncture, acupuncture, other types of reflex therapy) included in the complex of postoperative treatment was conductive to the maintenance of a favorable level of hormones contributing to compensatory defense reactions to surgical stress and total ovariectomy.

The effect of various parameters of transcutaneous electrical neurostimulation (TENS) on changes in B-endorphin (BE) blood plasma level has been studied in the mother and fetus during premature labour. A dependence of changes in BE plasma level on the frequency regimen of the impulse current has been established. The data, on the one hand, demonstrate the regulating effect of high- and low- frequency TENS on BE blood level and, on the other hand, indicate the involvement of endogenous opioid fetus system, which enables it to endure labour-induced stress.

A session of low-frequency electroacupuncture (EAP) of the nerve points of the cervicobrachial or lumbosacral regions was performed in 61 patients with vertebral osteochondrosis. An EAP therapeutic effect, analgetic one in particular, was found to depend on cortisol and aldosterone blood levels: reduced levels of the hormones related to EAP procedure appeared associated with a positive therapeutic response.
