Insulin-secreting allogeneic cell therapies are a promising treatment for type 1 diabetes, with the potential to eliminate hypoglycemia and long-term complications of the disease. However, chronic systemic immunosuppression is necessary to prevent graft rejection, and the acute risks associated with immunosuppression limit the number of patients who can be treated with allogeneic cell therapies. Islet macroencapsulation in a hydrogel biomaterial is one proposed method to reduce or eliminate immune suppression; however, macroencapsulation devices suffer from poor oxygen transport and limited efficacy as they scale to large animal model preclinical studies and clinical trials.

Amphiphilic dimeric cyanostilbenes with two donor-acceptor moieties connected through variable aliphatic linkers displayed aggregation in aqueous media to produce red emissive nano-assemblies. In the presence of anionic biopolymers such as ctDNA and heparin, they formed electrostatically driven co-assemblies with enhanced luminescence. Moreover, due to the chiral nature of the bio-templates DNA and heparin, the co-assemblies demonstrated induced chirality features.

Neurosonography (NSG) is pivotal for rapid, point-of-care neonatal brain assessment. This review elucidates the comprehensive applications of NSG in pediatric care, emphasizing its role in early diagnosis and management of pathologies affecting the pediatric head-such as scalp lesions, misshapen calvarium, ventricular distortions, and cerebrovascular abnormalities, and its specific role in conditions like hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE) across different neonatal gestational ages. We explore its diagnostic advantage in critical care settings, particularly for infants with stroke risk in sickle cell disease, ECMO-related complications, screening for therapeutic hypothermia, and routine neonatal intensive care unit monitoring.
