Folliculitis decalvans (FD) is a chronic inflammatory alopecia characterized by painful, scarring lesions and recurrent flares, often complicated by secondary bacterial infections. Despite the use of topical and systemic anti-inflammatory or antimicrobial therapies, FD remains challenging to manage, with limited therapeutic advancements. We report a case of recalcitrant FD in a man in his 40s who experienced significant symptom improvement and hair regrowth following the initiation of tirzepatide for weight management.

Afforestation is increasingly recognized as a critical strategy to restore ecosystems and enhance biodiversity on post-agricultural landscapes. However, agricultural legacies, such as altered soil structure, nutrient imbalances, and depleted microbial diversity, can slow down forest establishment or cause ecosystems to deviate from expected successional trajectories. In this opinion paper, we explore the potential of soil inoculations as a tool to overcome these challenges by introducing beneficial microbial communities that can accelerate ecosystem recovery and forest development.

The intestinal epithelium has a remarkably high turnover in homeostasis. It remains unresolved how this is orchestrated at the cellular level and how the behavior of stem and progenitor cells ensures tissue maintenance. To address this, we combined quantitative fate mapping in three complementary mouse models with mathematical modeling and single-cell RNA sequencing.

Background: Biologics can induce remission in some patients with severe asthma, however, little is known about pre-biologic disease trajectories and their association with outcomes from biological treatment. We aimed to identify long-term trajectories of disease progression in patients initiating biologics and investigate trajectory associations with disease burden and impact on biologic therapy efficacy.

Methods: Patients in the Danish Severe Asthma Registry initiating biologic therapy between 2016-2022 were included and followed retrospectively in prescription databases starting 1995.

Co-delivering dual-drug systems have proven to be effective in, for example, anticancer therapy or HIV prophylaxis due to a higher target selectivity and therapeutic efficacy from compound synergism. However, various challenges regarding physical stability can arise during the formulation definition when multiple drug compounds are included in the same formulation. In this work, the focus was on aqueous suspensions, which could be applied as long-acting injectable formulations to release the drug compounds over weeks to months after administration.
