Thermal modeling of electrically-pumped continuous-wave microring resonator-based topological insulator lasers.

Deleterious effects caused by Joule heating in electrically-pumped continuous-wave InP-based topological insulator lasers based on two-dimensional microring resonator arrays are estimated in this theoretical study. Steady-state temperature distributions within such an array are developed using a full numerical solution. Thermal interactions between active gain regions and ring resonators pose significant operational and integration challenges, as these devices are extremely sensitive to temperature-induced changes in a material's index of refraction.

Thermal Conductivity of β-Phase GaO and (AlGa)O Heteroepitaxial Thin Films.

Heteroepitaxy of β-phase gallium oxide (β-GaO) thin films on foreign substrates shows promise for the development of next-generation deep ultraviolet solar blind photodetectors and power electronic devices. In this work, the influences of the film thickness and crystallinity on the thermal conductivity of (2̅01)-oriented β-GaO heteroepitaxial thin films were investigated. Unintentionally doped β-GaO thin films were grown on -plane sapphire substrates with off-axis angles of 0° and 6° toward ⟨112̅0⟩ via metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE) and low-pressure chemical vapor deposition.

Coherent Population Trapping Combined with Cycling Transitions for Quantum Dot Hole Spins Using Triplet Trion States.

Optical spin rotations and cycling transitions for measurement are normally incompatible in quantum dots, presenting a fundamental problem for quantum information applications. Here we show that for a hole spin this problem can be addressed using a trion with one hole in an excited orbital, where strong spin-orbit interaction tilts the spin. Then, a particular trion triplet forms a double Λ system, even in a Faraday magnetic field, which we use to demonstrate fast hole spin initialization and coherent population trapping.

Context: Oxytocin has been investigated as a potential medication for psychiatric disorders.

Objective And Design: This study prospectively investigates correlations between oxytocin and other neuropeptides plasma levels in patients with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) according to severity and treatment, as compared to controls.

Subjects And Methods: Thirty-one children (6 neurotypical as control) participated in this study.
