Photodynamic diagnosis and therapy (PDD and PDT) are emerging techniques for diagnosing and treating tumors and malignant diseases. Photoproducts of protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) used in PDD and PDT may be used in the diagnosis and treatment, making a detailed analysis of the photoproduct formation under various treatment and diagnosis conditions important.Spectroscopic and mass spectrometric analysis of photoproduct formation from PpIX dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide were performed under commonly used irradiation conditions for PDD and PDT, i.

Background: Studies from different parts of the world on thyroid dysfunction have shown it to be widespread in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM); however, there is insufficient local data to support this observation.

Aim: To determine the burden of thyroid dysfunction among patients with T2DM at a Tertiary Hospital in Southeast Nigeria with emphasis on its prevalence and pattern of presentation.

Methods: Four hundred and seventy-two subjects were recruited for the study.

Objective: 1 gene expression in the rat hypothalamus was investigated following administration of methanolic extract of (MEHS) to provide mechanistic evidence for the reproductive effect of the MEHS as a potential regulator of 1 gene (which directly controls the hypogonadal axis).

Materials And Methods: This experiment was done using fifteen (15) male rats with average weight of 148 g, randomly grouped into three (3) groups (A-C). Group A was the control group and received no treatment.

Significance: Photobleaching of the photosensitizer reduces fluorescence observation time and the intensity of fluorescence emitted for tumor detection during 5-aminolevulinic acid-based photodynamic diagnosis.

Aim: This study aims to utilize the concept of fluorescence photoswitching, which uses the fluorescence emission from photosensitizer excitation followed by the simultaneous excitation of the photosensitizer and its photoproduct to increase the fluorescence detection intensity during PDD of deeply located tumors.

Approach: The fluorescence photobleaching of protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) and the formation of its photoproduct, photoprotoporhyrin (Ppp), caused by exposure to 505 nm light were investigated in solution, , and , and the fluorescence photoswitching was analyzed.
