Growing evidence shows parents' exposure to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and lifetime experiences of racial discrimination (EOD) negatively impacts not only their own health, but also their children's health. ACEs and EOD can be conceptualized as a reflection of shared underlying adversities and structural injustices that manifest in inequitable educational and employment opportunities and differential treatment by public policies and programs that impede parents' capacity to support their families. Therefore, a potentially important, but underexplored, mechanism of effects of parent ACEs and EOD on the next generation is through effects on household material hardships.

Background and aim The study aimed to investigate the effect of adding perineural adjuvants, clonidine and dexamethasone, to local anesthetic in Superficial Parasternal Intercostal Plane (SPIP) blocks. It was designed as a prospective, randomized, triple-blinded, feasibility trial, conducted at a single-center university hospital. The participants included adult patients who were undergoing cardiac surgery via median sternotomy.

Antifouling Copper Surfaces Interfere with Wet Chemical Nitrate Sensors: Characterization and Mechanistic Investigation.

Wet chemical sensors autonomously sample and analyze water using chemical assays. Their internal fluidics are not susceptible to biofouling (the undesirable accumulation of microorganisms, algae, and animals in natural waters) due to the harsh chemical environment and dark conditions; however, the sample intake and filter are potentially susceptible. The professional identity of scientists has historically been cultivated to value research over teaching, which can undermine initiatives that aim to reform science education. Course-Based Research Experiences (CRE) and the inclusive Research and Education Communities (iREC) are two successful and impactful reform efforts that integrate research and teaching. The aim of this study is to explicate the professional identity of instructors who implement a CRE within an established iREC and to explore how this identity contributes to the success of these programs.
