Sleep insufficiency and sleep disorders pose serious health challenges. This study aimed to determine the potential discrepancy between subjective and objective sleep assessments, including the latter made by physicians, by analyzing a 421-participant dataset in Japan comprising multiple nights of in-home sleep electroencephalogram (EEG) data and questionnaire responses on sleep habits or subjective experiences. We employed logistic regression models to examine which subjective and objective sleep parameters physicians are paying attention to when assessing sleep insufficiency, insomnia, sleep quality, and sleep apnea.

An incomplete discoid lateral meniscus is often associated with radial tears, which cause meniscal extrusion and result in poor healing outcomes. Centralization has recently been used as a surgical method to reduce extrusion. However, various repair techniques use single point of fixation sutures exclusively on the femoral side, potentially hindering healing.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study evaluated how the position of bone tunnels affects the migration of sutures used to repair medial meniscus posterior root tears (MMPRTs) in cadaveric knees.
  • - Researchers created three types of bone tunnels (anatomical, anterior, posterior) and measured changes in suture length as the knee flexed from 0° to 120°, finding significant differences in displacement based on tunnel position.
  • - Results indicated that sutures moved less when the tunnel was posterior (1.17 mm), compared to larger movements with anatomical (5.17 mm) and anterior tunnels (7.50 mm), suggesting optimal suture stability is achieved with posterior tunnel placement.

A 10-year-old spayed mixed breed dog presented with severe neurological signs. Computed tomography revealed a cranial mediastinal mass, osteolysis of the right second rib and second thoracic vertebra, tracheobronchial and mesenteric lymph node enlargement, pneumonia and pleural effusion. Magnetic resonance imaging detected lesions in the white matter of the right frontal lobe and left cerebral hemisphere with contrast-enhanced T1-weighted images showing demarcated enhancement.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of surgical treatment for discoid lateral meniscus with osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) by comparing clinical outcomes in patients with and without OCD after more than 5 years of surgery.
  • - Results showed that healing occurred in 93% of knees with pre-existing OCD, but the recurrence of OCD was significantly higher in these patients (28.5%) compared to those without OCD (8.8%).
  • - The research concluded that younger age is a risk factor for recurrent or postoperative OCD, suggesting that conservative treatment should be prioritized for younger patients with discoid lateral meniscus to reduce the chances of developing OCD after surgery.
