Nintedanib in Rheumatoid Arthritis-Related Interstitial Lung Disease: Real-World Safety Profile and Risk of Side Effects and Discontinuation.

Objective: Some concerns remain about the safety of nintedanib in patients with rheumatoid arthritis-related interstitial lung disease (RA-ILD), such as in the presence of comorbidities or in combination with biologic, targeted synthetic, and/or conventional synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs). In this multicenter study, we retrospectively evaluated the safety of nintedanib in a real-world population of patients with RA-ILD from the Italian Group for the Study of Early Arthritis (GISEA) registry and the possible role of comorbidities and DMARDs on drug safety and withdrawal. Our secondary aim was to investigate the causes of nintedanib discontinuation.

Feature selection with vector-symbolic architectures: a case study on microbial profiles of shotgun metagenomic samples of colorectal cancer.

The continuingly decreasing cost of next-generation sequencing has recently led to a significant increase in the number of microbiome-related studies, providing invaluable information for understanding host-microbiome interactions and their relation to diseases. A common approach in metagenomics consists of determining the composition of samples in terms of the amount and types of microbial species that populate them, with the goal to identify microbes whose profiles are able to differentiate samples under different conditions with advanced feature selection techniques. Here we propose a novel backward variable selection method based on the hyperdimensional computing paradigm, which takes inspiration from how the human brain works in the classification of concepts by encoding features into vectors in a high-dimensional space.

Fibromyalgia, mood disorders and chronic damage are the main determinants of worse quality of life in systemic lupus erythematosus patients: Results from a cross-sectional analysis.

Objective: As suggested by the EULAR recommendations, a comprehensive management of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) should include the evaluation of disease activity, chronic damage, and quality of life (QoL). QoL is significantly impaired in SLE patients, even in those achieving a state of remission, suggesting the possible contribution of other factors. Thus, in the present study we aimed at analyzing QoL in a large SLE cohort by using LupusQoL, and at identifying the main determinant of poorer QoL.

PASSing to the patient side: early achieving of an acceptable symptom state in patients with rheumatoid arthritis treated with Janus kinase inhibitors.

Objective: Patients Acceptable Symptom State (PASS) is a single dichotomized question assessing health satisfaction. We aimed to investigate PASS achievement within 4 weeks of treatment with Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors (Jakinibs) and its association with treatment response after 4 and 12 weeks in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients.

Methods: We recruited consecutive RA patients starting baricitinib or tofacitinib.

Background: Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) is a mainstay for the treatment of systemic sclerosis (SSc). The occurrence and implications of MMF-related adverse events on drug retention rates in real life remain poorly defined. We aimed to determine the MMF retention rate and to investigate the causes and patterns of discontinuation, adverse events (AEs) and treatment options used after discontinuation.
