Article Synopsis
  • A 78-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis developed a subcutaneous abscess in her right armpit after starting baricitinib medication five to six months earlier.
  • Medical imaging revealed several abscesses and calcified lymph nodes, leading to a diagnosis of scrofuloderma linked to tuberculous lymphadenitis.
  • She was treated with a specific antitubercular drug regimen and after six months, her condition improved, though tuberculosis during JAK inhibitor use is unusual and can be severe.

IL-31 receptor blockade suppresses pruritus of atopic dermatitis. However, cell-type-specific contributions of IL-31 receptor to itch, its expression mechanism, and the downstream signaling pathway to induce itch remain unknown. Here, using conditional knockout mice, we demonstrate that IL-31-induced itch requires sensory neuronal IL-31 receptor and STAT3.

Article Synopsis
  • - Atopic dermatitis (AD) is not just a local skin issue but a complex systemic disease, showing varying clinical presentations and molecular profiles based on patient data.
  • - Researchers analyzed RNA-sequencing data from both skin and blood samples of 115 AD patients and 14 healthy controls to identify specific molecular features linked to different clinical manifestations, like erythema and papulation.
  • - By using a regression model on longitudinal data from 30 AD patients, they discovered three distinct patient clusters relating to clinical severity and treatment history, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive approach in understanding and monitoring AD.

The storage roots of purple-fleshed sweet potato contain a variety of anthocyanins and polyphenols. Little is known about changes in the total content and composition of anthocyanins and polyphenols in the early growth stages of the root system. In this study, we investigated the changes in anthocyanins and polyphenols in the root system of purple-fleshed sweet potato cultivars at 15, 30, 45, and 60 days after transplant (DAT).

Polyphenol-rich rabbiteye blueberry ( Aiton) leaves have attracted attention as a food material. In this study, we compared the total polyphenols, total proanthocyanidin content, and antioxidant activity of the leaves of 18 blueberry varieties and investigated the seasonal variation in polyphenols. We also evaluated the anti-cancer cell proliferation properties of the rabbiteye blueberry leaf specific cultivar 'Kunisato 35 Gou'.
