Purpose: To validate automated counts of presumed anterior chamber (AC) cells in eyes with histories of uveitis involving the anterior segment using swept-source (SS) anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) against manual counts and compare automated counts against Standardized Uveitis Nomenclature (SUN) criteria.

Methods: Eyes were imaged with the ANTERION SS AS-OCT device (Heidelberg Engineering). A fully automated custom algorithm quantified the number of hyper-reflective foci (HRF) in line-scan images.

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic relapsing-remitting and potentially progressive form of inflammatory bowel disease in which there is extensive inflammation and mucosal damage in the colon and rectum as a result of an abnormal immune response. MV130 is a mucosal-trained immunity-based vaccine used to prevent respiratory tract infections in various clinical settings. Additionally, MV130 may induce innate immune cells that acquire anti-inflammatory properties and promote tolerance, which could have important implications for chronic inflammatory diseases such as ulcerative colitis.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) development is a gradual process in which progressive histological alterations of the intestinal mucosa damage occur over years. This process can be influenced by modifiable external factors such as lifestyle and diet. Most CRC cases (>80%) originate from conventional adenomas through the adenomatous pathway and usually harbour dysplastic cells, whereas the serrated pathway is less frequent (<20% cases) and comprises hyperplastic polyps and other polyps containing dysplastic cells.

Article Synopsis
  • The study followed vaccinated healthcare workers over 13 months to evaluate their immune responses to the BNT162b2 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine.
  • It found strong initial immune responses after each vaccine dose, but observed a decline over time, indicating a potential need for booster shots.
  • Younger participants displayed higher immunoglobulin G levels after the first dose, but these differences were not consistent in subsequent doses, highlighting the importance of maintaining cellular immunity for lasting protection against the virus.

Article Synopsis
  • Monitoring gestation and predicting foaling dates in mares, especially in pasture-bred bucking horses, is complicated due to unknown breeding dates.
  • A study developed a breed-specific scale that correlates fetal vitreous body length measured via transrectal ultrasonography with days before parturition (DBP) for bucking horses.
  • The resulting curvilinear equation accurately predicts DBP based on fetal eye measurements, highlighting that previously used equations for small ponies do not apply accurately to bucking horse pregnancies.
