Rabies healthcare-seeking behaviors of urban and peri-urban residents: Results from a rabies knowledge, attitudes, and practices survey, Bangladesh, 2018.

Rabies is one of the most lethal infectious diseases, with those living in Asia and Africa having the highest risk of dying from rabies. We conducted a knowledge, attitudes and practices survey in urban and peri-urban areas of Bangladesh to describe canine bite rates, rabies knowledge, and healthcare seeking behaviors and barriers to human and dog vaccination. A bite risk assessment score (BRAS) and healthcare-seeking behavior score (HSBS) was calculated for each bite victim.

Manual fetal stimulation during intrapartum fetal surveillance: a randomized controlled trial.

Background: Manual fetal stimulation, either by mechanical manipulation or by stimulation of the fetal scalp, is known to evoke a fetal heart response in a normal fetus.

Objective: This study aimed to assess the clinical effectiveness of manual fetal stimulation in the assessment of fetal well-being during labor vs no stimulation among women with a singleton pregnancy and to investigate the maternal and neonatal outcomes in the 2 groups.

Study Design: This was a randomized controlled trial conducted in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at a tertiary care teaching hospital between 2014 and 2016.

Household members of diarrhea patients are at higher risk of developing diarrheal diseases (>100 times for cholera) than the general population during the 7 days after the diarrhea patient is admitted at a health facility. There is growing evidence demonstrating that theory-driven water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) interventions are likely to yield greater behavior change than those based on health education alone. The Cholera Hospital-Based Intervention for 7-Days (CHoBI7) mobile health (mHealth) program is a theory-driven WASH intervention initially delivered to a diarrhea patient by a health promoter during a health facility visit and reinforced through weekly voice and text messages.

Megacities as drivers of national outbreaks: The 2017 chikungunya outbreak in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Background: Several large outbreaks of chikungunya have been reported in the Indian Ocean region in the last decade. In 2017, an outbreak occurred in Dhaka, Bangladesh, one of the largest and densest megacities in the world. Population mobility and fluctuations in population density are important drivers of epidemics.

Reflex anuria causing acute kidney injury following myomectomy: A case report.

Reflex anuria is a rare cause of acute renal failure, which may occur following ureteric manipulation or painful stimuli to adjacent organs during pelvic surgery. This condition, relatively unfamiliar to the general gynecologist, should be considered even when no obvious cause of anatomical obstruction is found. We present a case of reflex anuria in a 28-year-old woman for two large intramural fibroids.
