Synthesis, Physicochemical Properties, and Ion Recognition Ability of Azulene-Based Bis-(Thio)Semicarbazone.

Azulene-1,3-bis(semicarbazone), , and azulene-1,3-bis(thiosemicarbazone), , were synthesized by the acid-catalyzed condensation reactions of semicarbazide and thiosemicarbazide, respectively, with azulene-1,3-dicarboxaldehyde in stoichiometric amounts. Compounds and were identified by high-resolution mass spectrometry and characterized by IR, H-NMR, C-NMR, and UV-vis spectroscopic techniques. Crystal structure determination of azulene-1,3-bis(thiosemicarbazone) shows that the thiosemicarbazone units exhibit a -closed conformation, with both arms oriented in the same direction and adopting an configuration with respect to the imine linkages.

Tailoring Optical Performance of Polyvinyl Alcohol/Crystal Violet Band-Pass Filters via Solvent Features.

Optical filters are essential components for a variety of applicative fields, such as communications, chemical analysis and optical signal processing. This article describes the preparation and characterization of a new optical filter made of polyvinyl alcohol and incremental amounts of crystal violet. By using distinct solvents (HO, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and HO) to obtain the dyed polymer films, new insights were gained into the pathway that underlies the possibility of tailoring the material's optical performance.

Characteristics of Patients with Persistent COVID-19 Symptoms and Unscheduled Return Visits to a Centre for COVID-19 Evaluation.

This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the characteristics of patients with long COVID syndrome. This study included 457 adults who had at least one persistent symptom after COVID-19 infection. The median time interval between the last SARS-CoV-2 infection and emergency room presentation was 3 months.

Early Presentation of Boerhaave Syndrome in the Emergency Department: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

We present the case of a 46-year-old patient who arrived at the emergency department with chest pain following an episode of vomiting. The diagnosis was Boerhaave syndrome and acute mediastinitis. Due to the prompt presentation and the location of the rupture in the lower esophagus, emergency surgical intervention was performed, including esophageal suturing, mediastinal drainage, and jejunostomy for feeding.
