Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura Secondary to Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Infection: A Clinical Case.

Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is an autoimmune condition characterized by a reduced platelet count due to enhanced peripheral destruction and impaired platelet production. While thrombocytopenia is a well-documented complication of various viral infections, cytomegalovirus (CMV), a member of the Herpesviridae family, is primarily associated with infections in immunocompromised patients and is rarely implicated in causing severe thrombocytopenia in immunocompetent patients. This article aims to highlight the importance of considering CMV as a significant etiological factor in ITP, particularly in cases of asymptomatic thrombocytopenia.

Genome-informed Discovery of Monchicamides A-K: Cyanobactins from the Microcoleaceae Cyanobacterium LEGE 16532.

Genome mining has emerged as an important tool for the discovery of natural products and is particularly effective for the swift identification of ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptides (RiPPs). Among RiPPs, cyanobactins have gained attention due to their diverse structures and bioactive properties. Here, we explored the Microcoleaceae cyanobacterium LEGE 16532 strain and identified the biosynthetic gene cluster (BGC), which was predicted to encode cyanobactin-like molecules.

Freezing of gait shapes the postural control of individuals with Parkinson's disease: Effect of visual information and medication states.

Background: Several measures of the center of pressure have been used to describe magnitude and structure of the postural sway in individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD). This study aimed to examine whether both the magnitude and structure of the center of pressure trajectory can differentiate PD individuals with and without freezing of gait in both On- and Off-medication states and with eyes open and closed.

Methods: Twenty-four individuals with PD (14 without and 10 with freezing of gait) were tested.

Interstitial lung disease: retrospective study of the prognostic impact of acute exacerbations.

Background: Interstitial lung diseases have high mortality associated with hospitalization for decompensation. There are doubts about the factors involved in the progression of fibrosis, for example the role played by acute exacerbations.  With this work, the authors intend to analyze whether there are predictive parameters of mortality related to exacerbations.
