Evaluation of serum galectin-3 concentration as a potential biomarker in exudative-type age-related macular degeneration.

To investigate the effect of serum galectin-3 on naive neovascular AMD and its use as a serum marker by revealing the variation in this molecule between patient and control groups. Fifty-six naive neovascular AMD patients and 30 healthy control age-matched healthy subjects were included in this prospective case‒control study. Blood samples were obtained and used for analysis of complete blood count; High sensitivity C-reactive protein (HsCRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol, homocysteine, HbA1c and galectin-3 levels.

Evaluation of the macula, retinal nerve fiber layer and choroid thickness in premature ovarian failure using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography.

Background: The aim of our study is to describe the basal findings at the first diagnosis of the disease in patients with premature ovarian failure (POF) and to draw attention to the early changes in the macula, optic nerve head and choroid.

Analysis of factors on voice quality in thyroidectomy patients.

Objective: Vocal cord paralysis (VCP) is a serious complication in thyroidectomy operations; however, its management remains unclear. The present study evaluated the voice parameters of patients who underwent surgery using Intraoperative Neurophysiologic Monitoring (IONM).

Patients And Methods: A total of 52 patients (41 females and 11 males) who underwent a total thyroidectomy operation were evaluated using objective and subjective voice analysis examinations before and after surgery.

The effect of transepithelial corneal collagen cross-linking treatment on optical quality of the cornea in keratoconus: 12-month clinical results.

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of transepithelial corneal collagen crosslinking (CXL) treatment on the optical performance of the cornea at 12-month follow-up after CXL in patients with progressive keratoconus.

Methods: One hundred and ten eyes of 67 patients were included. The following corneal optical aberrations over the 4-mm-diameter pupil were recorded via Sirius dual-scanning corneal tomography: total, anterior and posterior amount of corneal higher order aberrations [HOAs], vertical coma, horizontal coma, vertical trefoil, oblique trefoil, and spherical aberration, and Strehl ratio of point spread function (PSF).

COVID-19 related changes in corneal curvature and endothelium after mild infection.

Purpose: To investigate subclinical corneal changes using corneal topography in the evaluation of corneal curvature and specular microscopy in the evaluation of the endothelial layer after mild coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Methods: In this prospective study, 112 eyes of 56 individuals with mild COVID-19 who recovered were investigated. Mean cell density (CD), mean coefficient of variation (CV), mean percentage of hexagonal cells, mean cell area (AVG), and central corneal thickness (CCT) were recorded from specular microscopy.
