Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are associated with the alteration of extracellular matrix. The purpose of this study was to investigate how the levels of matrix metalloproteinases and their inhibitors - TIMPs are influenced by the presence of inguinal hernia as well as by its surgical treatment.
