This article describes how size-based health and beauty ideals made their way into the medical field through the eugenics movement of the 19th to 20th centuries and were validated using so-called "standard weight" tables. They became even more mainstream with the 20th-century tool to replace standard weight tables: body mass index (BMI). BMI, then, is a continuation of white supremacist embodiment norms, racializing fat phobia under the guise of clinical authority.

Objective: This study aimed to examine the association between body mass index (BMI; weight [kilogram]/height [meter]) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) among the largest three largest racial/ethnic groups in the United States.

Methods: We compiled 10 waves of the continuous National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 1999-2000 through 2017-2018. Participants (N = 45,514) were those who had data on BMI, HbA, and demographics.

Objective: To examine whether the relationship between food insecurity (FI) and type 2 diabetes (T2D) varies by race/ethnicity and sex.

Methods: We analyzed data from low-income adults participating in the 2009 and 2011 waves of the California Health Interview Survey (CHIS) (N=22,596). We used logistic regression models to estimate the sex and race-specific associations between FI and T2D.
