The pharmacological treatment of granulomatosis with polyangiitis: a review of clinical trials registered in clinicaltrials.gov and the International Clinical Trials Registry Platform.

To date, there is no published overview of the drug pipeline in granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA), a rare disease. The aim of this study was to identify clinical trials from two study repositories. A review of clinical trials was conducted using publicly available data.

Cost-effective 3D scanning and printing technologies for outer ear reconstruction: current status.

Current 3D scanning and printing technologies offer not only state-of-the-art developments in the field of medical imaging and bio-engineering, but also cost and time effective solutions for surgical reconstruction procedures. Besides tissue engineering, where living cells are used, bio-compatible polymers or synthetic resin can be applied. The combination of 3D handheld scanning devices or volumetric imaging, (open-source) image processing packages, and 3D printers form a complete workflow chain that is capable of effective rapid prototyping of outer ear replicas.

Chromatin condensation regulates endothelial cell adaptation to shear stress.

Vascular endothelial cells (ECs) have been shown to be mechanoresponsive to the forces of blood flow, including fluid shear stress (FSS), the frictional force of blood on the vessel wall. Recent reports have shown that FSS induces epigenetic changes in chromatin. Epigenetic changes, such as methylation and acetylation of histones, not only affect gene expression but also affect chromatin condensation, which can alter nuclear stiffness.

Quantifying site-specific chromatin mechanics and DNA damage response.

DNA double-strand breaks pose a direct threat to genomic stability. Studies of DNA damage and chromatin dynamics have yielded opposing results that support either increased or decreased chromatin motion after damage. In this study, we independently measure the dynamics of transcriptionally active or repressed chromatin regions using particle tracking microrheology.

Evaluation of an Audio-haptic Sensory Substitution Device for Enhancing Spatial Awareness for the Visually Impaired.

Significance: Visually impaired participants were surprisingly fast in learning a new sensory substitution device, which allows them to detect obstacles within a 3.5-m radius and to find the optimal path in between. Within a few hours of training, participants successfully performed complex navigation as well as with the white cane.
