Objectives: Although antegrade selective cerebral perfusion (ASCP) provides good brain protection during aortic arch surgery, the issue of distal organ protection during circulatory arrest remains to be clarified. The aim of the study was to retrospectively evaluate the outcome of aortic arch surgery using ASCP at different temperatures, focusing on visceral functions (VFs).

Background: The aim of this study was to assess a prospective, randomized clinical trial (RCT) comparing neurostimulation with laryngeal palpation (NSLP) of recurrent laringeal nerve (RLN) alone with NSLP associated with laryngeal neuromonitoring (LNM) to evaluate the ability of LNM in reducing the rates of RLN palsy.

Methods: In all, 250 consecutive patients scheduled to have thyroidectomy were randomized to NSLP alone (NSLP group) or NSLP with LNM (LNM group). The primary endpoint was to assess the rate of RLN palsy.

Objectives: Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth is defined as an abnormally high bacterial population level in the small intestine. Intestinal motor dysfunction associated with hypothyroidism could predispose to bacterial overgrowth. Luminal bacteria could modulate gastrointestinal symptoms and interfere with levothyroxine absorption.

Background: The authors evaluated the role of the association alcohol-hepatitis C virus on the course and severity of chronic liver disease; they also regard the researches of many authors on this subject.

Materials And Methods: 280 consecutive patients, suffering from chronic liver disease and admitted to the Department of Medical Hydrology of Rome University ''La Sapienza'' are studied. Fifty-nine of them were affected by chronic alcoholic liver disease without evidence of hepatitis virus infection (AC-), 58 were alcoholic and positive for HCV antibody (AC+), 163 positive for HCV antibody and non alcoholic (NAC+).
