The COVID-19 pandemic was an unprecedented global health crisis. Vulnerable populations with preexisting mental illness have been disproportionately burdened and may experience adverse mental health outcomes related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our objective was to evaluate the association between COVID-19 diagnosis, known exposure to COVID-19, sheltering in place, symptom severity, psychological distress, and depression severity among adults with severe mental illness (SMI).

DNA methylation modulates nucleosome retention in sperm and H3K4 methylation deposition in early mouse embryos.

In the germ line and during early embryogenesis, DNA methylation (DNAme) undergoes global erasure and re-establishment to support germ cell and embryonic development. While DNAme acquisition during male germ cell development is essential for setting genomic DNA methylation imprints, other intergenerational roles for paternal DNAme in defining embryonic chromatin are unknown. Through conditional gene deletion of the de novo DNA methyltransferases Dnmt3a and/or Dnmt3b, we observe that DNMT3A primarily safeguards against DNA hypomethylation in undifferentiated spermatogonia, while DNMT3B catalyzes de novo DNAme during spermatogonial differentiation.

Background: Patients living with HIV (PLHIV) often face challenges that contribute to missed clinical care which can impact their health outcomes.

Methods: This retrospective quantitative study comprised 5338 adults living with HIV who received antiretroviral treatment (ART) for 12 months, from July 2018 to June 2019 in Kinshasa and Haut-Katanga provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Descriptive statistics were computed to show the level of missed appointments for ART.

A systematic review of rural community-based mental health interventions in the United States.

Background: Mental health impacts a person's quality of life and ability to engage in healthy behaviors. Rural communities in the United States have limited access to mental and behavioral health treatment.

Aim: To conduct a systematic review to identify existing rural community-based mental health interventions and identify commonalities and differences by extracting study attributes and intervention components.

Courtesy Stigma and HIV Professionals: A Brief Review of Implications for Psychosocial and Professional Well-Being.

The impact of HIV-related stigma on social workers, clinicians, counselors, and advocates working in organizations serving people living with HIV (PLWH), is rarely considered. Professionals experience "courtesy stigma" when working with or on behalf of PLWH, regardless of their personal HIV status. PubMed, Medline, and PsycInfo databases, along with a review of relevant reference lists and referrals, identified 13 studies addressing this phenomenon.
