Essential oil components are the most common agents used to inhibit pathogens. Ethyl cinnamate (ECIN) is a hydrophobic essential oil component with well-known antibacterial properties but is poorly soluble in water, which limits its applications. In this study, inclusion complexes (ICs) were prepared by encapsulating ECIN in β-cyclodextrin (βCD), 2-hydroxypropyl-βCD, or methyl-βCD using an ultrasonication method to enhance water solubility and thermal and antibacterial properties.

Background: This study examined (1) associations between sociodemographic and clinical variables with low muscle mass and radiodensity and their loss relative to treatment commencement in patients with lung cancer; and (2) the magnitude of change in muscle mass and association with treatment outcomes and survival.

Methods: Prospective study in patients planned for curative (chemo)radiotherapy for lung cancer. Low skeletal muscle mass and radiodensity and muscle loss were determined from pre- and post-treatment computed tomography images.

Purpose: Data informing the safety, efficacy, treatment logistics, and dosimetry of stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) for lung tumors has primarily been derived from patients with favorably located solitary tumors. SBRT is now considered a standard-of-care treatment for inoperable early-stage non-small cell lung cancer and lung metastases, and therefore extrapolation beyond this limited foundational patient population remains an active source of interest.

Methods And Materials: This case-based discussion provides a practical framework for delivering SBRT to challenging, yet frequently encountered, cases in radiation oncology.
