Environmental pollution caused by persistent organic pollutants (POPs) has increased the challenge for the scientific communities. Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), classified as POPs, are widely applied in various materials as brominated flame retardants (BFRs). Because of the nature of these chemical compounds including toxicity, stability, and capability to bioaccumulate and biomagnify, PBDEs have posed a great challenge and risk to human health and wildlife.

The role of NCDs in ZnO nanostructured matrix has been analyzed through XRD, SEM, FTIR and PL characterization techniques. The introduction of NCDs was found to modify not only their aspect ratio, observed by a reduction in the preferred-axis growth compared to the- and-axis, but also induced an additional emission around 441 nm, which is typical of NCDs.

Such photoanodes were fabricated via Ti anodization followed by Ru impregnation and annealing. The X-ray diffractograms revealed that anatase was the main TiO phase, while rutile was slightly present in all samples.
