Background: Ophthalmology has historically been a male-dominated specialty. Despite there being a higher proportion of females in Canadian medical schools since the early 2000s, it is unknown if trends in female applicants and those accepted to ophthalmology have followed suit. This study aims to evaluate trends in gender representation of ophthalmology applicants to Canadian residency programs from 1998 to 2020 and to compare those trends to other surgical specialties.

Owing to limited clinical, familial and epidemiological data, thousands of variants are considered to be variants of uncertain significance (VUS). Here we have utilized CRISPR-Cas9-based saturation genome editing in a humanized mouse embryonic stem cell line to determine the functional effect of VUS.

Understanding factors associated with surgery refusal could inform interventions to improve acceptance of recommended care.
Patients And Methods: This retrospective cohort study evaluated the impact of surgery refusal on overall survival (OS) and identified associated demographic and clinical factors using data on patients with PTC from the National Cancer Database from 2004 to 2019.
Purpose: To evaluate ocular treatment adherence and its impact on clinical outcomes in patients with cystinosis in southwestern Ontario, where the disease incidence is higher due to a founder effect in the Old Order Amish population.
Methods: This was a retrospective case series of patients with ocular cystinosis seen at Victoria Hospital and the Ivey Eye Institute at St Joseph's Health Care in London, Ontario, Canada, from 2008 to 2023. The authors investigated the demographics, ocular manifestations, and visual outcomes and characteristics in pediatric patients with ocular cystinosis.
