Healthcare professionals' experiences of providing palliative care for patients with diabetes - a qualitative study.

Background: At present, there are no specific guidelines for the treatment of diabetes in palliative care in Norway. The aim of this study was therefore to explore healthcare professionals' experiences of providing palliative care to individuals with diabetes in specialist as well as primary care settings.

Methods: We interviewed 12 healthcare professionals from two palliative care units in specialist healthcare, one hospice unit in a nursing home, and one dietary care unit providing counselling in the municipality in the eastern part of Norway.

Bridge over Troubled Water: Patients' Opportunities for Collective Participation in Substance Use Institutions through Research Circles.

This study explores patients' opportunities for collective participation in an institution for people with substance use disorder. Patients and staff from the treatment institution cooperated with researchers to make changes in the treatment practice, using a research circle as a model for the project. In the article, we discuss the following research questions: How and in what areas did patients have the opportunity to participate collectively in the treatment institution? How did the patients experience participation in the research circle? Data consist of minutes from meetings, seminars, and focus-group interviews.

Chip-based electrochromatography coupled to ESI-MS detection.

In this study, we present the coupling of chip-based electrochromatography to MS using a glass chip with a monolithically integrated nanoelectrospray emitter. As separation column, an acrylate-based porous polymer monolith is implemented into the glass chip by photopolymerization. For the establishment and development of this method, we used a test mixture detectable with both fluorescence and ESI-MS.

[Cholesterol determination at conscription. A method to identify persons with high risk of developing cardiovascular disease].

In the adult population, serum cholesterol level and risk of cardiovascular disease are related to some extent to habits and lifestyle established at an early age. We have estimated serum total cholesterol levels by means of a dry chemical method and have collected information on established cardiovascular risk factors among 1,203 young Norwegian men at conscription. 30 of the recruits with the highest serum cholesterol levels were later examined in the hospital's out-patient clinic.

Pulmonary embolism and heart disease. An autopsy study.

The frequency of pulmonary embolism in patients with myocardial infarction (MI) and chronic rheumatic heart disease (RHE) has been investigated in an autopsy series. The series comprised 21530 hospital autopsies from 1960 to 1984. Altogether 5351 patients with MI and 289 patients with RHE as underlying death cause were selected for this study.
