Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive condition that affects more than 10% of the population worldwide, accounting for more than 843 million (M) individuals. The prevalence of CKD (844 M patients) is higher than that of diabetes mellitus (422 M patients), cancer (42 M patients), and HIV (37 M patients), but people are often less aware of it. Global expert groups predict reductions in the nephrology workforce in the next decade, with a declining interest in nephrology careers.

Use of this tool in people aged under 65 years with MLTC has not previously been investigated. This study aimed to investigate the feasibility of using the OPT in people with MLTC aged 45 years or above, in a multi-ethnic primary-care setting and describe the health outcome priorities of people with MLTC by age, clusters of long-term conditions and demographic factors, and to investigate any differences in prioritisation in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAims: This expert consensus reviews the reality of primary care clinical management of people with type 2 diabetes (T2D) on non-intensive insulin therapy, with an emphasis on the use of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) technology for effective care in this participant group. Here, we identify key unmet needs for skills and systems development within this frontline healthcare setting, along with major challenges and opportunities associated with managing these changes effectively.
Methods: The authors participated in two primary care consensus panels held on 28 November 2023 and on 21 May 2024.
Aims: To design a regional clinical service for people with early-onset type 2 diabetes (EOT2D) in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (England).
Methods: A literature search was undertaken to identify important considerations. A working group of key stakeholders was formed to design a triage system and service pathway.
Background: This systematic literature review (PROSPERO registration: CRD42022327974) examined the duration of uncontrolled hyperglycemia (glycated hemoglobin [HbA] ≥ 7.0%; ≥ 53 mmol/mol) before basal insulin initiation in insulin-naive people with type 2 diabetes who were receiving concomitant oral glucose-lowering agents or injectable glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist therapy.
Methods: Databases (Embase and MEDLINE) were searched to identify relevant articles published between January 1, 2001, and April 19, 2023.
