Lipid droplets (LD) are storage sites for neutral lipids that can be used as a source of energy during nutrient starvation, but also function as hubs for fatty acid (FA) trafficking between organelles. In the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, the absence of LD causes a severe disorganization of the endomembrane network during starvation. Here we show that cells devoid of LD respond to amino acid (AA) starvation by activating the serine/threonine phosphatase calcineurin and the nuclear translocation of its target protein Crz1.

Tobacco cigarette smoking is associated with disrupted brain network dynamics in resting brain networks including the Salience (SN) and Fronto parietal (FPN). Unified multimodal methods [Resting state connectivity analysis, Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI), neurite orientation dispersion and density imaging (NODDI), and cortical thickness analysis] were employed to test the hypothesis that the impact of cigarette smoking on the balance among these networks is due to alterations in white matter connectivity, microstructural architecture, functional connectivity and cortical thickness (CT) and that these metrics define fundamental differences between people who smoke and nonsmokers. Multimodal analyses of previously collected 7 Tesla MRI data via the Human Connectome Project were performed on 22 people who smoke (average number of daily cigarettes was 10 ± 5) and 22 age- and sex-matched nonsmoking controls.

Hypertensive postmenopausal women are more likely to develop adverse cardiac remodeling and respond less effectively to drug treatment than men. High-intensity interval exercise (HIIE) is a nonpharmacological strategy for the treatment of hypertension; however, the effectiveness in women remains uncertain. In spontaneously hypertensive rats, exercise can lead to a post-exercise decrease in blood pressure, named post-exercise hypotension (PEH). This can be following physical training but also after a single bout of mild to moderate exercise when measured with tail-cuff or externalized catheter methods. Our aim was to assess the PEH obtained with different calculation methods and to compare the magnitude of this effect induced by a moderate-intensity continuous exercise or a high-intensity intermittent exercise.
