Non-invasive assessment of hepatic steatosis by ultrasound-derived fat fraction in individuals at high-risk for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.

Aims: Given the increasing number of individuals developing metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and the low rate of those with progressive liver disease, there is a pressing need to conceive affordable biomarkers to assess MASLD in general population settings. Herein, we aimed to investigate the performance of the ultrasound-derived fat fraction (UDFF) for hepatic steatosis in high-risk individuals.

Methods: A total of 302 Europeans with obesity, type 2 diabetes, or a clinical history of hepatic steatosis were included in the analyses.

Peripheral graft infection due to Staphylococcus aureus without abnormal findings by 99mTc-HMPAO-labeled-leukocyte scan.

Here, we present the case of an extremely subtle peripheral graft infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus. The lack of local signs and the negativity of all imaging studies, including (99m)Tc-HMPAO-Labelled-Leukocyte Scan which is reported to have 100% sensitivity, delayed the diagnosis and therapy, which were both provided by surgery.

A 52 year-old woman with gastric cancer treated with surgery and chemotherapy, is admitted in our Internal Medicine Department because of the presence of fever (max 41.2 degrees C), dyspnoea, non-productive cough and mental confusion. The anamnesis and the physical examination address to the diagnosis of CAP (Community-Acquired Pneumonia); in particular the alteration of consciousness and the onset of symptoms after the insertion of a nose-gastric tube let us to consider the diagnosis of aspiration pneumonia.
