Barriers in care pathways and unmet mental health needs in LGBTIQ + communities.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer people and minority gender identities and sexualities (LGBTIQ+) are often stigmatized and experience discrimination in health care settings, leading to poorer mental health outcomes and unmet needs compared to heterosexual and cisgendered peers. It is thus imperative that mental health providers consider and address structural challenges in order to reduce mental health inequalities of this population. This narrative review assessed the barriers that may prevent access to care and the pathways for care in LGBTIQ + communities.

Three-Month Follow-up Study of Mental Health Outcomes After a National COVID-19 Lockdown: Comparing Patients With Mood or Anxiety Disorders Living in an Area With a Higher Versus Lower Infection Incidence.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the related containment measures can represent a traumatic experience, particularly for populations living in high incidence areas and individuals with mental disorders. The aim of this study was to prospectively examine posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and depressive symptoms since the end of the first COVID-19 pandemic wave and Italy's national lockdown in subjects with mood or anxiety disorders living in 2 regions with increasing pandemic incidence. 102 subjects with a anxiety or mood disorder were enrolled from June to July 2020 and assessed at baseline (T0) and after 3 months (T1) with the Impact of Event Scale-Revised, Patient Health Questionnaire-9, Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-Item, and Work and Social Adjustment Scale.

Long-term genetic modification of rhesus monkey hematopoietic cells following transplantation of adenoassociated virus vector-transduced CD34+ cells.

We have explored the potential of recombinant adenoassociated virus (AAV) vectors for gene transfer of the human beta-globin gene and the genetic modification of primate pluripotent hematopoietic stem cells (P-PHSCs). Transduction of P-PHSCs was tested in a preclinical bone marrow transplantation model in rhesus monkeys. CD34+ cells were transduced ex vivo and autologously transplanted without prior selection into irradiated rhesus monkeys.

An element upstream from the human delta-globin-encoding gene specifically enhances beta-globin reporter gene expression in murine erythroleukemia cells.

We have previously shown that a DNA-binding factor specific to adult hematopoietic cells (polypryrimidine-binding factor, PYBF) binds to a pyrimidine-rich region 1 kb upstream from the human delta-globin-encoding gene (HBD). The developmental stage-specificity of PYBF and the location of its binding site between the fetal and adult beta-globin (HBB)-like genes suggest that PBYF and its binding site may function in fetal-to-adult globin gene switching. Here, we describe the effect of 383-bp (delta383) and 99-bp (delta99) sequences containing the PYBF-binding site on transcription from various globin and non-globin promoters, using a transient assay with the cat reporter gene in murine erythroleukemia (MEL) cells, a cell line with abundant PYBF activity.

In vitro release of lectins by Phallusia mamillata hemocytes.

alpha-Lactose specific lectins are released from Phallusia mamillata hemocytes during short-term cultures. The molecular weight of the subunits, the immunological cross-reaction and the sugar specificity suggest that the released lectins are similar to those isolated from the sonicated hemocytes. Because lectin release appears to take place independently of active protein synthesis, the possibility exists that lectins are pre-formed, stored in hemocytes and released when in vitro conditions stimulate the cells.
