Histamine is a biogenic amine and an indicator of fishery product freshness and hygienic quality. The European Regulation EC 2073/2005 sets the standards for fish sample collection and establishes quantitative levels of histamine in fishery products to ensure consumer health and safety. This retrospective study presents data on histamine monitoring in fish and fishery products collected in northern Italy between 2018 and 2022.

Article Synopsis
  • * Adenosine, a compound that accumulates in tissues during stress conditions, plays a significant role in regulating immune responses and keratinocyte activities, indicating its involvement in psoriasis development.
  • * Alterations in adenosine receptor expression in psoriatic skin may disrupt tissue balance and contribute to inflammation, highlighting the potential of targeting adenosine signaling pathways for psoriasis treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • Antimicrobial resistance poses a global health risk, particularly with pet-associated strains, and equine veterinarians show a high prevalence of methicillin-resistant staphylococci (MRS).
  • A study in northwestern Italy assessed the nasal carriage of MRS in 110 horses and their 34 human caregivers, revealing a prevalence of MRS in both groups, particularly in racehorses and their personnel.
  • Key risk factors for MRS carriage included frequent antimicrobial treatments and poor environmental conditions, indicating a need for One Health surveillance programs to monitor these interactions between humans and horses.

Article Synopsis
  • Intravenous regional limb perfusion (IVRLP) is an effective method for treating infections in birds, allowing high local drug concentrations while reducing side effects.
  • The study focused on amikacin dosing in healthy leghorn hens, administering a single 10 mg/kg dose of amikacin via IVRLP and measuring its tissue absorption.
  • Results showed peak tissue concentrations one hour after administration, suggesting that repeating the procedure every 24 hours is advisable for effective treatment, though the duration may vary based on individual cases.

Melanoma cells express high levels of CD73 that produce extracellular immunosuppressive adenosine. Changes in the CD73 expression occur in response to tumor environmental factors, contributing to tumor phenotype plasticity and therapeutic resistance. Previously, we have observed that CD73 expression can be up-regulated on the surface of melanoma cells in response to nutritional stress.
