Background: Preoperative biliary drainage (PBD) has been introduced to control the negative effects of obstructive jaundice in patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD). The optimal time interval between PBD and PD remains unclear. The purpose of our systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the optimal period for PBD before PD.

A Complicated Case of Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura in Pregnancy with Superimposed Preeclampsia.

A 32-year-old woman at 26 weeks gestation presented with severe unexplained thrombocytopenia with signs and symptoms of severe pregnancy-induced hypertension and what appeared to be hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet count syndrome, leading to a severe diagnostic challenge. The multidisciplinary team identified her condition as thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura. Timely management decisions and multidisciplinary care ensured a safe delivery.

Siewert II esophagogastric junction adenocarcinoma: Still searching for the right treatment transabdominal or transthoracic surgical approaches?

Introduction: To date, the discussion is still ongoing whether the Siewert II adenocarcinoma of the esophagogastric junction (AEG) should be resected either by thoracoabdominal esophagectomy or gastrectomy with resection of the distal esophagus by transhiatal extension. The aim of our study was to compare the oncological and perioperative outcomes of the transthoracic approach (TTA) and the transabdominal approach (TAA).

Methods: Searches of electronic databases identifying studies from Cochrane, PubMed and Google Scholar were performed.

This study describes the synthesis of graphene oxide-modified magnetite (rGO/FeO) and its use as an electrochemical sensor for the quantitative detection of hemoglobin (Hb). rGO is characterized by a 2θ peak at 10.03° in its X-ray diffraction, 1353 and 1586 cm vibrations in Raman spectroscopy, while scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive spectroscopy of rGO and rGO/FeO revealed the presence of microplate structures in both materials and high presence of iron in rGO/FeO with 50 wt %.

Can ventral TAPP achieve favorable outcomes in minimally invasive ventral hernia repair? A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Purpose: The concept of the transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) was transferred from the inguinal hernia repair to be adopted in minimally invasive ventral hernia repair (VHR) and since then it has been gaining popularity. However, there are minimal data supporting the ventral TAPP (vTAPP) technique which may lead to reticence in the adoption of this approach. The aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the outcomes of patients who received minimally invasive vTAPP for VHR.
