Sweet basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) is an economically important annual aromatic plant, grown mostly for culinary use for both fresh and dry consumption and as a source of essential oil. In Cyprus, approximately 4 ha are grown annually, either in greenhouses as a year-round crop or in open fields from April to November, and the majority of the production is exported to the European market.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe evaluated left ventricular (LV) functions in 32 patients with chronic pulmonary diseases (CPDs) and compared them to 16 healthy controls. Echocardiographic assessment of both systolic and diastolic parameters of LV was performed for all patients and controls. LV systolic functions were found to be preserved in mild states, but with evident hypoxia the aortic acceleration and deceleration times decreased.
