The ceramic-carbon refractory lining of an oxygen converter is subjected to variable thermochemical stresses, causing a progressive loss of material over time, which is expressed in a decreasing residual thickness of the lining. The forecasting method using Bayesian statistics has become a valuable skill in steel production planning and is one of the main conditions constituting the appropriate organization of steel and refractories production. This paper presents examples of Bayesian modelling of the unit wear rate value of the refractory materials for the zone with the highest wear in the refractory lining of a converter.

A 74-year-old female patient underwent total gastrectomy, splenectomy and D2 lymph node dissection for gastric cancer with non-dissectible paraaortic lymph node metastasis. Pathological examination revealed a high level of metastasis of dissected lymph nodes. The patient received daily oral administration of 100 mg TS-1, a novel oral anticancer agent.

A 19-year-old woman was admitted to our clinic because of abdominal distention and severe constipation from infancy. Barium enema revealed a grossly dilated descending colon in the right of the abdomen. At laparotomy, with diagnosis of Hirschsprung's disease associated with non-obstructing intestinal malrotation (non-rotation type), division of the adhesion between caecum and duodenum, and modified Duhamel's procedure were performed.

Antigen presenting capacity (APCC) by monocytes (Mono) and alveolar macrophages (AM), using PPD as the antigen, was determined in 15 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis and 9 healthy controls who all showed positive PPD skin tests. Results were as follows: 1) Mono from both healthy controls and tuberculosis showed APCC to autologous peripheral T lymphocytes, and no significant difference was observed between the two groups. 2) AM from tuberculosis showed APCC to autologous peripheral T lymphocytes, however AM from healthy controls did not.
