Five-year clinical outcomes of STEMI patients treated with a pre-specified bioresorbable vascular scaffold implantation technique: Final results of the BVS STEMI STRATEGY-IT.

Background: Data on Absorb bioresorbable vascular scaffold (BVS) use in patients presenting with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) are limited. Furthermore, Absorb studies including STEMI patients lacked a prespecified implantation technique to optimize BVS deployment. This study examines the 5-year outcomes of BVS in STEMI patients using an optimized implantation strategy and the impact of prolonged dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT).

Transcatheter aortic-valve implantation with or without on-site cardiac surgery: The TRACS trial.

Background: Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has emerged as an effective and safe treatment for patients with symptomatic aortic stenosis. The indication to TAVI should be agreed upon by a Heart Team, and the procedure should be performed in centers with on-site cardiac surgery. However, TAVI complications requiring emergent cardiac surgery (ECS) have become very rare.

Gender differences in outcomes after left atrial appendage closure with Watchman FLX device: insights from the Italian-FLX registry.

Introduction: Recent studies have shown gender differences in cardiovascular outcomes after left atrial appendage closure (LAAC), highlighting different complication rates and adverse events, particularly in short-term assessments. As a result, there remains a significant knowledge gap on how these differences directly impact the efficacy and safety of LAAC procedures. The aim of this retrospective study was to investigate the clinical outcomes of LAAC in women and men using the Watchman FLX device.

Cardiac wasting in head and neck cancer and in cardiac autopsies from different cancer types: A study in a chemo-naïve setting.

Background: Cardiac wasting is a detrimental consequence of cancer that has been traditionally ignored and often misinterpreted as an iatrogenic effect.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study on 42 chemo-naive patients affected by locally advanced head and neck cancer (HNC). Based on unintentional weight loss, patients were divided into cachectic and non-cachectic.

Maxillofacial Injuries in Padel Game.

Background: Maxillofacial injuries are very frequent in the sports environment. Padel is a new sport of Mexican origin, very popular in Mexico, Spain, and Italy, but with a rapid spread in Europe and other continents.

Aims: The aim of this article is to report our experience of 16 patients with maxillofacial injuries that occurred during padel matches in 2021.
