Background: Obesity and hypercholesterolemia have been associated with better responses to ICIs in NSCLC, while type 2 diabetes (T2D) has been associated with a worse response. However, the association between glucose levels and outcomes remains unknown. This study investigated the impact of mean baseline glucose levels, T2D, dyslipidemia, and obesity on overall survival (OS) in NSCLC patients undergoing ICI therapy.

Turning the needle into the haystack: Culture-independent amplification of complex microbial genomes directly from their native environment.

High-throughput sequencing (HTS) has revolutionized microbiology, but many microbes exist at low abundance in their natural environment and/or are difficult, if not impossible, to culture in the laboratory. This makes it challenging to use HTS to study the genomes of many important microbes and pathogens. In this review, we discuss the development and application of selective whole genome amplification (SWGA) to allow whole or partial genomes to be sequenced for low abundance microbes directly from complex biological samples.

Post-artesunate delayed hemolysis (PADH) occurred in 6 of 24 children treated with artesunate for severe malaria in the United States; however, severe hemolysis requiring hospitalization or transfusion was rare. In children in the United States treated with artesunate, counseling, and symptom monitoring may be preferred to weekly laboratory surveillance for PADH.
