Revision total hip arthroplasty using custom monoflange acetabular components (CMACs) in cases of severe bone loss is becoming an increasingly preferred alternative to traditional implants, which may not provide stable fixation in such cases. However, this procedure also carries a higher risk of infection and implant loosening. This case report discusses a 67-year-old female patient who presented with old acetabular component loosening and significant pelvic bone loss.

Article Synopsis
  • Modular, uncemented conical stems are a viable option for revisions in total hip arthroplasty (THA) for patients with loss of proximal bone stock, but the use of extended trochanteric osteotomy (ETO) during extraction can lead to significant complications, such as blood loss and infections.
  • A study comparing outcomes between patients who underwent THA revisions with and without ETO found that while pre-operative scores were lower in the ETO group, post-operative functional outcomes did not significantly differ, although the no-ETO group showed better quality of life scores.
  • The findings suggest that ETO may not negatively impact revision outcomes, but given its invasive nature, it should be approached on a case-by-case basis.

This study evaluated the tolerability and efficacy of the topical rho-kinase inhibitor netarsudil for canine primary corneal endothelial degeneration (PCED). Twenty-six eyes of 21 client-owned dogs with PCED were enrolled in a prospective, randomized, vehicle control clinical trial and received topical netarsudil 0.02% (Rhopressa®) or vehicle control twice daily (BID) for the first 4 months.

Unlabelled: Radiotherapy (RT) plays a key role in brain tumours but can negatively impact functional outcomes and quality of life. The aim of this study was to analyse anti-neural and onconeural autoantibodies and markers of blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption in patients with primary brain cancer undergoing RT.

Materials And Methods: A prospective study was conducted on 45 patients with a brain tumour scheduled for intensity-modulated radiotherapy.
