Nile tilapia () and European sea bass () are economically significant species in Mediterranean countries, serving essential roles in the aquaculture industry due to high market demand and nutritional value. They experience substantial losses from bacterial pathogens and , particularly at the onset of the summer season. The immune mechanisms involved in fish infections by and remain poorly understood.

Offspring sex ratios in avian species are of significant scientific interest, with implications for evolutionary biology and poultry production. This study investigated sex ratios in Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica), a valuable model for other poultry species due to its rapid generation interval. The study examined the impact of selection over generations, age at first egg (AFE), and body weight at AFE (BW) on offspring sex ratios.

An experiment was conducted to assess the response of chicks to in-ovo injection of Bacillus subtilis (probiotic), raffinose (prebiotic), and their combinations. The study used 1,500 embryonated eggs allotted to 10 groups/ 6 replicates (150 eggs/group). The experimental treatments were: 1) un-injected control (NC); 2) sham (sterile distilled water) (PC); 3) probiotic 4 × 10CFU/egg (LBS); 4) probiotic 4 × 10CFU/egg (HBS); 5) prebiotic 2 mg/egg (LR); (6 prebiotic 3 mg/egg (HR); 7) probiotic 4 × 10CFU + prebiotic 2 mg/egg (LBS+LR); 8) probiotic 4 × 10CFU + prebiotic 3 mg/egg (LBS+HR); 9) probiotic 4 × 10CFU + prebiotic 2 mg/egg (HBS+LR); and 10) probiotic 4 × 10CFU + prebiotic 3 mg/egg (HBS+HR).

Article Synopsis
  • The research investigates the effects of varying levels of Dunaliella salina (DS) on the growth and health of quail, assessing growth rates, carcass quality, and organ function.
  • Quail chicks were divided into four groups, receiving different amounts of DS in their diet, with those fed 0.5 g and 1 g of DS/kg showing the best growth performance and improved lipid profiles.
  • Results indicated that adding DS improved the immune response and overall health of the quail without negatively impacting feed intake or carcass characteristics.
