Introduction: Ligation of the intersphincteric fistula tract (LIFT) is a sphincter-preserving procedure for treating anal fistula of cryptoglandular origin. Our prospective study aimed to determine the postoperative outcomes of patients undergoing LIFT in emergency and elective settings.
Methods: This was a single-centre prospective observational study of the LIFT procedure for the treatment of anal fistulas.
Rust powder collected from an archeological iron was evaluated by complementary analyses such as FTIR, XRD, XRF, and SEM/EDX. The analyses revealed that lepidocrocite (L) was the major component in the archeological iron. Coconut husk (CH) can be classified as a type of lignocellulosic biomass of renewable resources that are widely available, especially in coastal areas.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: In coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients, elevated levels of inflammatory cytokines from over stimulation of immune cells have become a concern due to the potential outburst of cytokine storm that damages the tissues and organs, especially the lungs. This leads to the manifestation of COVID-19 symptoms, such as pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), multiple organ failure, and eventually death. Mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (MSCs) are currently one of hopeful approaches in treating COVID-19 considering its anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory functions.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAim: The applicability of laparoscopic D3 oncological resection for splenic flexure cancer (SFC) surgery has not been fully explored due to technical difficulties and variations in surgical procedure. The aim of this work is to describe the feasibility of performing laparoscopic D3 resection in SFC and its impact on long-term survival.
Method: A retrospective study on 47 out of 52 consecutive patients who underwent elective laparoscopic colectomy for SFC from December 2006 until December 2019 at Korea University Anam Hospital was performed.
