Hospital-Based Influenza and Pneumococcal Vaccination for Cancer Patients on Active Treatment and Their Family Members during the COVID-19 Pandemic in Italy: A Single-Center Experience.

In patients with cancer, tumor- and treatment-induced immunosuppression are responsible for a four-fold increase in morbidity and mortality caused by influenza and invasive infections compared to the general population. The main oncology societies strongly recommend vaccination in patients with cancer to prevent these infections. However, vaccine hesitancy is a main concern in this population.

Clinical evaluation of a deep learning CBCT auto-segmentation software for prostate adaptive radiation therapy.

Purpose: Aim of the present study is to characterize a deep learning-based auto-segmentation software (DL) for prostate cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images and to evaluate its applicability in clinical adaptive radiation therapy routine.

Materials And Methods: Ten patients, who received exclusive radiation therapy with definitive intent on the prostate gland and seminal vesicles, were selected. Femoral heads, bladder, rectum, prostate, and seminal vesicles were retrospectively contoured by four different expert radiation oncologists on patients CBCT, acquired during treatment.

Prognostic Value of the Area of Lung Involved in Severe and Non-Severe Bronchiolitis: An Observational, Ultrasound-Based Study.

Background: Point of care lung ultrasound (LUS) has a definite role in viral bronchiolitis when combined with clinical data. Previous data showed a bigger involvement of the superior lung zones in more severe cases. The aim of the present study is to describe whether different lung areas are implicated to different degrees in patients admitted to a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and needing ventilation compared to those with less severe forms.

Antibody response to three-dose anti-SARS-CoV-2 mRNA-vaccination in treated solid cancer patients.

Solid cancer patients are at higher risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection and severe complications. Moreover, vaccine-induced antibody response is impaired in patients on anticancer treatment. In this retrospective, observational, hypothesis-generating, cohort study, we assessed the antibody response to the third dose of mRNA vaccine in a convenience sample of patients on anticancer treatment, comparing it to that of the primary two-dose cycle.

Italian pediatric intensive care units admitting critically ill cancer children: results from a national survey.

Background: Pediatric patients affected by oncologic disease have a significant risk of clinical deterioration that requires admission to the intensive care unit. This study reported the results of a national survey describing the characteristics of Italian onco-hematological units (OHUs) and pediatric intensive care units (PICUs) that admit pediatric patients, focusing on the high-complexity treatments available before PICU admission, and evaluating the approach to the end-of-life (EOL) when cared in a PICU setting.

Methods: A web-based electronic survey has been performed in April 2021, involving all Italian PICUs admitting pediatric patients with cancer participating in the study.
