Noise pollution is a pervasive factor that increasingly threatens natural resources and human health worldwide. In particular, large-scale changes in road networks have driven shifts in the acoustic environment of rural landscapes during the past few decades. Using sampling plots from the Spanish Landscape Monitoring System (SISPARES), 16 km each, we modelled the spatio-temporal changes in road traffic noise pollution in Ecoregion 1 of Spain (approximately 66,000 km).

Cavitation refers to the formation and collapse of vapor bubbles near solid boundaries in high-speed flows, such as ship propellers and pumps. During this process, cavitation bubbles focus fluid energy on the solid surface by forming high-speed jets, leading to damage and downtime of machinery. In response, numerous surface treatments to counteract this effect have been explored, including perfluorinated coatings and surface hardening, but they all succumb to cavitation erosion eventually.

This paper presents unique comprehensive quantitative measures of the changes in Spanish rural landscapes, specifically in relation to the Rural-Urban Interface (RUI). Our objective was to investigate the urbanisation process in rural areas of Spain, thus the expansion of the RUI in an environmentally complex study area (it includes arid regions, continental areas or high mountains). The data were produced by the Spanish Rural Landscapes Monitoring System project (SISPARES), which has carried out five separate surveys for 1956, 1984, 1998, 2008 and 2018.

A theory is developed to model the nonlinear dynamics of two coupled bubbles inside a spherical liquid-filled cavity surrounded by an elastic medium. The aim is to study how the conditions of full confinement affect the coupled oscillations of the bubbles. To make the problem amenable to analytical consideration, the bubbles are assumed to be located on a diameter of the cavity, which makes the problem axisymmetric.

The present paper focuses on the simulation of the growth and collapse of a bubble in the vicinity of a wall. Both liquid and gas phases are assumed compressible, and their interaction is handled with the volume-of-fluid method. The main interest is to quantify the influence of the induced shear stress and pressure pulse in the vicinity of the wall for a variety of bubble sizes and bubble-wall distances.
