Article Synopsis
  • The low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLr) is crucial for lipid metabolism regulation, particularly in mammalian and zebrafish brains.
  • Researchers investigated the expression of ldlr genes in zebrafish, finding ldlra expressed later in development and ldlrb present from the early stages.
  • The study revealed that these genes, along with pcsk9, are prevalent in adult zebrafish brains, influencing how LDL particles are handled during brain injuries and raising questions about cholesterol balance in brain health.

Background: The extensively drug-resistant (XDR) strains of Acinetobacter baumannii have become a major cause of nosocomial infections, increasing morbidity and mortality worldwide. Many different treatments, including phage therapy, are attractive ways to overcome the challenges of antibiotic resistance.

Methods: This study investigates the biofilm formation ability of 30 XDR A.

Article Synopsis
  • - Acinetobacter baumannii is a significant cause of hospital-acquired infections worldwide, with its multidrug-resistant strains raising serious public health issues.
  • - Researchers isolated 30 MDR A. baumannii strains from clinical samples and studied the characteristics of a specific phage, vB_AbaS_SA1, including its genome and antibacterial properties.
  • - The phage demonstrated effective antibacterial action, especially when used alongside antibiotics, suggesting a promising phage-antibiotic synergy, although further research is needed to fully understand its mechanisms and limitations.

Phosphorus is an essential macronutrient for crop production. Struvite precipitation and reuse from phosphorus-rich sewage sludge are cost-effective measures to improve phosphorus utilization efficiency and decrease its negative environmental impact. In this study, the objectives were to optimize the phosphorus extraction (using sulfuric acid) and recovery (as struvite) processes and determine the most appropriate process conditions using RSM.

Background: The Mexican lime (Citrus aurantifolia cv.), widely consumed in Iran and globally, is known for its high perishability. Edible coatings have emerged as a popular method to extend the shelf life of fruits, with xanthan gum-based coatings being particularly favored for their environmental benefits.
