An extended microkinetic model (MKM) for the selective oxidation of ethylene to ethylene oxide (EO) is presented, based on an oxidic representation of the silver (Ag) surface, namely, the p(4 × 4) oxidic reconstruction of the Ag(111) phase to mimic the significant oxygen coverage under reaction conditions, as is evidenced by recent operando spectroscopic studies. The MKM features three pathways each for producing either ethylene oxide (EO) or carbon dioxide (CO), including the common intermediate or oxometallacycle (OMC) pathway, an atomic oxygen pathway, as well as pathways centered around the role of a diatomic oxygen species occupying an oxygen vacancy (O/O*). The MKM uses a composite set of experimental and density functional theory (DFT) kinetic parameters, which is further optimized and trained on experimental reaction data.

Background Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a significant public health issue worldwide, closely linked with cardiovascular events such as atherosclerosis, peripheral arterial disease (PAD), stroke, coronary artery disease (CAD), and heart failure. The ankle-brachial index (ABI) is a simple tool that compares blood pressure in the ankle and arm, helping to detect PAD and assess the risk of cardiovascular events. An increased ABI signifies an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), whereas a diminished ABI correlates with angiographically verified atherosclerosis along with heightened death rates.

Background: There are limited data on the physical effects of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) for prostate cancer (PC), and on the relationships of such measures of adiposity and strength to cardiovascular outcomes.

Objectives: The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the relationships of measures of adiposity and strength to cardiovascular outcomes (cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure, arterial revascularization, peripheral arterial disease, and venous thromboembolism) in patients with PC. A secondary objective was to characterize the relationships between ADT use and 12-month changes in these physical measures.

Background: Despite growing concern regarding over-prescription of narcotic pain medication following ambulatory surgery, little is known about the analgesic prescribing practices following endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) in obese patients in comparison to non-obese patients.

Objective: To compare the rates of opioid versus non-opioid prescriptions, the need for steroids, and post-operative adverse events between obese and non-obese adult patients undergoing ESS.

Methods: Using TriNetX Live database, we identified all patients aged ≥18 years who underwent ESS (n = 1303) between 2014 and 2022 across several healthcare institutions across the state of Tennessee.
