Role of Oxidative Stress and Inflammation in Postoperative Complications and Quality of Life After Laryngeal Cancer Surgery.

(1) Background: Laryngeal surgery due to carcinoma leads to significant tissue disruption, cellular injury, and inflammation. This leads to increased levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), causing oxidative damage that can influence quality of life (QOL) and recovery and complicate the postoperative course. The aim of this study was to compare how postoperative quality of life and surgical complication occurrence interacted with the biomarker levels of oxidative stress (malondialdehyde, MDA; superoxide dismutase, SOD; glutathione peroxidase 1, GPX1; and catalase, CAT) and inflammation (interleukin 1, IL-1; interleukin 6, IL-6; C-reactive protein, CRP) in patients treated with conservative and radical laryngeal surgery.

Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest Prospective Epidemiology Monitoring during the First Five Years of EuReCa Program Implementation in Serbia.

Introduction: Poor outcome is still a challenging concern in patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) world-wide and there are large differences between European countries regarding not only incidence rates, but survival rates as well. In 2014, Serbian Resuscitation Council initiated regular data collection on epidemiology of OHCA, according to the European Registry of Cardiac Arrest (EuReCa) study protocol.

Study Objective: The aim of this study is to analyze the results of the first five-year period after initiation of EuReCa study protocol elements implementation in OHCA epidemiological data collection in Serbia.

An outbreak of Legionnaires' disease in newborns in Serbia.

Legionnaires' disease is an atypical pneumonia caused by inhaling small droplets of water containing the bacterium Legionella spp. In newborns, it is a rare event, usually associated with water births and the use of air conditioning systems or air humidifiers. A nosocomial outbreak of Legionnaires' disease in the maternity ward of a secondary-care hospital in Arandjelovac, Serbia is described.

Initial Outcomes and Survival of Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest: EuReCa Serbia Multicenter Cohort Study.

Introduction Although the global survival rate of patients after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) has increased in the previous years, there still remain significant multifactorial public health challenges with many important aspects influencing the overall survival rate of these patients. The objective of this article is to analyze basic epidemiological parameters of OHCA in Serbia and to evaluate the influence of pre-hospitalization factors on the survival of OHCA patients. Methods Data on OHCA within the EuReCa Serbia Registry was collected according to the EuReCa Study protocol during the period October 1, 2014 - December 31, 2019, and included basic demographic data of the patients, data related to OHCA prior to hospital arrival, as well as data regarding subsequent hospitalization.
