Mining is hazardous, although it is among major occupations in India involving large work force. Background: Exposures to respirable crystalline silica causes silicosis, pulmonary tuberculosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer, autoimmune disorders and chronic renal disease.
