Drug-induced hypertension, though rare, often presents diagnostic challenges, particularly when the causative drug is not typically associated with hypertension. We describe a case involving a 55-year-old woman who presented with anxiety, confusion, and significantly high blood pressure unresponsive to standard treatments. Despite increasing medication doses, her blood pressure remained poorly controlled, leading to an investigation for secondary causes.

Article Synopsis
  • Infective endocarditis (IE) is a serious condition with high mortality rates, especially in patients with abnormal heart valves like bicuspid aortic valves (BAV).
  • A 22-year-old female initially hospitalized for splenic infarction was later diagnosed with IE after presenting symptoms of acute toe ischemia and showing vegetations on her aortic valve.
  • The case highlights the importance of early detection and treatment of IE, especially in young patients, emphasizing the need to avoid anti-coagulation to prevent complications like embolic events.

Electrochemical biosensors offer a cost-effective way to identify Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) (Hsp 60), responsible for stomach infections. The conductivity and surface area of the electrode were enhanced using Hap-Ag-ZnO composites on glassy carbon electrode (GCE) along with polythiophene (PP), as a conductive polymer to improve proficiency.

The chiral recognition and separation of enantiomers are of great importance for biological research and the pharmaceutical industry. Preparing homochiral materials with adjustable size and chiral binding sites is beneficial for achieving an efficient chiral recognition performance. Here, a homochiral covalent organic framework membrane modified with β-cyclodextrin (CD-COF) was constructed, which was subsequently utilized as an electrochemical sensor for the enantioselective sensing of tryptophan (Trp) molecules.
