Background: Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PCP) is a leading cause of fungal pneumonia, but its diagnosis primarily relies on invasive bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) specimens that are difficult to obtain. Oropharyngeal swabs and serum could improve the PCP diagnostic workflow, and we hypothesized that CRISPR could enhance assay sensitivity to allow robust P. jirovecii diagnosis using swabs and serum.

Despite increasing awareness, patient-level outcomes for bedaquiline-resistant TB have not been well-characterised and case management poorly defined.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study with matched controls at a TB referral hospital in South Africa.
Objectives: Coping-Together is a self-directed, self-management intervention initially developed for patients in early-stages of cancer and their caregivers. This study evaluated its acceptability among patients with advanced cancer and their caregivers.
Methods: Twenty-six participants (patients with advanced cancer = 15 and their caregivers = 11) were given the Coping-Together materials (6 booklets and a workbook) for 7 weeks.
Background: For decades, poor treatment options and low-quality evidence plagued care for patients with rifampin-resistant tuberculosis. The advent of new drugs to treat tuberculosis and enhanced funding now permit randomized, controlled trials of shortened-duration, all-oral treatments for rifampin-resistant tuberculosis.
Methods: We conducted a phase 3, multinational, open-label, randomized, controlled noninferiority trial to compare standard therapy for treatment of fluoroquinolone-susceptible, rifampin-resistant tuberculosis with five 9-month oral regimens that included various combinations of bedaquiline (B), delamanid (D), linezolid (L), levofloxacin (Lfx) or moxifloxacin (M), clofazimine (C), and pyrazinamide (Z).
Background: Self-directed interventions are cost-effective for patients with cancer and their family caregivers, but barriers to use can compromise adherence and efficacy.
Aim: Pilot a Sequential Multiple Assignment Randomized Trial (SMART) to develop a time-varying dyadic self-management intervention that follows a stepped-care approach in providing different types of guidance to optimize the delivery of Coping-Together, a dyadic self-directed self-management intervention.
Methods: 48 patients with cancer and their caregivers were randomized in Stage 1 to: (a) Coping-Together (included a workbook and 6 booklets) or (b) Coping-Together + lay telephone guidance.
