Background: Imparting knowledge in the operating room represents a particular challenge in student teaching.
Objective: Participation in the operating room was compared with teaching via a surgical video course as part of the block practical course in ophthalmology at the University of Lübeck.
Methods: All students took part in both observation in the operating room and in the video course.

Background: A fundamental prerequisite for the development of clinically manifested metastases in uveal melanoma (UM) is the hematogenous dissemination of melanoma cells, which circulate in the systemic circulation, deposit in organs and can subsequently colonize the organs.
Material And Methods: This article presents a review of the literature on the detection of circulating tumor cells (CTC) from UM and their relevance for the clinical and pathophysiological aspects of the malignancy.
Results: Since the first description of CTC in UM patients 20 years ago, only 20 articles have been published on the detection of intact CTCs in UM.
The liquid biopsy is a cutting-edge technique that involves analysing non-solid biological tissues, primarily blood but also ocular fluids, for the presence of cancer cells or fragments of tumour DNA. Unlike traditional biopsies, liquid biopsies are usually minimally invasive and can be performed more frequently, enabling continuous monitoring of disease progression and treatment efficacy. This article (and the associated series of articles) outlines the key developments in liquid biopsy, which include the analysis of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), circulating tumor cells (CTC) and exosomal RNA and protein biomarkers.

Excimer laser trabeculotomy (ELT) represents such a minimally invasive approach and can easily be combined with cataract surgery.
Objective: Over 12 months the reduction in intraocular pressure (IOP), the number of antiglaucoma drugs and the incidence of adverse events were evaluated using the new Elios method (Elios Vision GmbH, Germering, Germany) for real-life data from a heterogeneous patient population undergoing ELT in combination with cataract surgery (phaco-ELT).
Contactless inductive flow tomography (CIFT) is a flow measurement technique allowing for visualization of the global flow in electrically conducting fluids. The method is based on the principle of induction by motion: very weak induced magnetic fields arise from the fluid motion under the influence of a primary excitation magnetic field and can be measured precisely outside of the fluid volume. The structure of the causative flow field can be reconstructed from the induced magnetic field values by solving the according linear inverse problem using appropriate regularization methods.
