Two-pore domain, outwardly rectifying potassium (TOK) channels are exclusively expressed in fungi. Human fungal pathogen TOK channels are potential antifungal targets, but TOK channel modulation in general is poorly understood. Here, we discovered that TOK (CaTOK) is regulated by extracellular pH, in contrast to TOK channels from other fungal species tested.

Objective: Dysregulated eating is common among youth and is associated with trait-level negative affect and emotion regulation difficulties. Despite the transient nature of affect, momentary associations among affect and eating behavior are unclear, which limits development of more impactful treatment tools, such as "just-in-time" intervention approaches (JITAI). The current study (N = 62) drew from two ecological momentary assessment (EMA) studies involving children and adolescents who endorsed loss of control (LOC) eating symptoms during a two-week assessment period.

Rationale And Objective: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication among hospitalized adults, but AKI prediction and prevention among adults has proved challenging. We used machine learning to update the nephrotoxic injury negated by just-in time action (NINJA), a pediatric program that predicts nephrotoxic AKI, to improve accuracy among adults.

Study Design: A retrospective cohort study.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aims to examine the histopathology and outcomes in patients with retinoblastoma who underwent eye enucleation and had neovascular glaucoma (NVG).
  • The research included 1,420 total cases from five continents, revealing that 16% of patients with NVG were often at higher risk of severe histopathological findings.
  • The findings indicate that NVG is linked to more aggressive forms of the disease and a higher chance of metastasis, emphasizing the need for careful monitoring and treatment in these cases.

South Africa has high levels of obesity and overweight, which contribute to non-communicable diseases and are associated with poor diets high in ultra-processed foods. Bundling occurs when two or more products are packaged and sold together, often at a discount and is a marketing strategy for unhealthy foods. Given the paucity of data on bundling of unhealthy foods, this exploratory study sought to document how unhealthy foods are bundled together to be more attractive to consumers in Johannesburg, South Africa.
