Objective: A visible thrombus remains a risk factor during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

Methods: Between October 2004 and March 2005, we treated all patients who consecutively presented with acute coronary syndrome + angiographically visible thrombus using the Export Aspiration System (group 1, n = 79). We retrospectively analyzed all consecutive patients who had been treated without a thrombectomy device (group 2, n = 79).

Until now only Japanese authors have reported 4 cases of pancreatic neoplasm associated with ulcerative colitis (UC). We report on a case of a 44-year-old woman who was operated on for complicated UC and an exocrine-endocrine neoplasm of the pancreas, where the endocrine component was presented by pancreatic polypeptide (PP)-producing cells. By means of molecular genetics methods we found microsatellite instability (MSI) in the markers D18S35, FGA and p53 in the colonic lining, and loss of heterozygosity (LOH) in the p53 marker in the pancreatic tumor.

In a large-scale Bulgarian study, 122 patients with abdominal and/or lung echinococcosis were randomly selected for treatment with albendazole or mebendazole. The main aims were to evaluate the effect of each drug on the hydatid cysts, to follow the changes in cyst morphology during and after treatment, and to determine how quickly each drug produced the first, detectable, degenerative changes in the cysts. Follow-up was based on periodic ultrasonography, chest radiography and computed tomography.

The adsorption and decomposition pathways of 1-propanethiol on a Ga-rich GaAs(100) surface have been investigated using the techniques of temperature programmed desorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS). 1-Propanethiol adsorbs dissociatively on a clean GaAs(100) surface to form propanethiolate and hydrogen. Further reactions of these species to form new products compete with the recombinative desorption of molecular propanethiol.
