Purpose: Urolithiasis is a chronic condition that leads to repeated CT scans throughout the patient's life. The goal was to assess the diagnostic performance and image quality of submillisievert abdominopelvic computed tomography (CT) using deep learning-based image reconstruction (DLIR) in urolithiasis.

Methods: 57 patients with suspected urolithiasis underwent both non-contrast low-dose (LD) and ULD abdominopelvic CT.

A recent phase I study showed that weekly cisplatin, irinotecan and concurrent radiotherapy can be administered with moderate toxicity in patients with oesophageal cancer. Patients with no prior treatment and oesophageal cancer stage I to III, performance status <3, caloric intake >1,500 kcal day(-1) were included. Chemotherapy, with cisplatin 30 mg m(-2) and irinotecan 60 mg m(-2), was administered at days 1, 8, 22, 29, and concurrently with radiotherapy at days 43, 50, 64 and 71.

The fluorescence properties of thiazole orange, linked via a (1) hydrophobic alkyl or a (2) hydrophilic ethylene glycol chain to the central internucleotidic phosphate group of a pentadeca-2'-deoxyriboadenylate (dA15), are evaluated. Linkage at the phosphate group yields two stereoisomers, S-isomer of the phosphorus chiral center (Sp) and R-isomer of the phosphorus chiral center (Rp); these are studied separately. The character of the linkage chain and the chirality of the internucleotidic phosphate linkage site influence the fluorescent properties of these thiazole orange-oligonucleotide conjugates (TO-probes).

The effect of interaction with DNA and oligonucleotides on the photophysical properties of two thiazole orange (TO) derivatives, with different side chains (-(CH2)3-N+(CH3)3 and -(CH2)6-I)) linked to the nitrogen of the quinoline ring of the thiazole orange, is presented here. The first one called TO-PRO1 is a commercially available dye, whereas the second one called TO-MET has been specially synthesized for further covalent binding to oligonucleotides with the aim of being used for specific in situ detection of biomolecular interactions. Both photophysical measurements and molecular calculations have been done to assess their possible mode of interaction with DNA.

A prognostic study based on 127 untreated patients with hepatocellular carcinoma was undertaken to evaluate their survival time and to find clinical and biologic criteria which allow the selection of patients with a survival time longer than 60 days who could enter a therapeutic trial. Twenty-eight clinical and biologic variables were assessed using univariate and multivariate semiparametric regression (Cox's) models. Ten variables were isolated by univariate analysis.
