Article Synopsis
  • The study presents an optimized workflow for analyzing formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) patient tissues to uncover molecular insights linked to clinical outcomes, utilizing advanced techniques like Adaptive Focused Acoustics (AFA) and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).
  • The method allows for the analysis of up to 96 samples, identifying between 8,000-10,000 unique proteins with a high level of quantitative accuracy (<20% median CVs).
  • Applied to lung adenocarcinoma FFPE blocks, the workflow demonstrates superior deep proteome coverage and efficiency, significantly contributing to biomarker discovery and proteomic research in archived samples.

This study describes the deployment process of an AI-driven clinical decision support (CDS) system to support postpartum depression (PPD) prevention, diagnosis and management. Central to this CDS is an L2-regularized logistic regression model trained on electronic health record (EHR) data at an academic medical center, and subsequently refined through a broader dataset from a consortium to ensure its generalizability and fairness. The deployment architecture leveraged Microsoft Azure to facilitate a scalable, secure, and efficient operational framework.

Plastic pollutants create health crises like physical damage to tissues, upset reproductive processes, altered behaviour, oxidative stress, neurological disorders, DNA damage, gene expression, and disrupt physiological functions, as the biosphere accumulates them inadvertently through the food web. Water resources have become the generic host of plastic wastes irrespective of their particle size, resulting in widespread distribution in aquatic environments. The pre-treatment step of the traditional water treatment process can easily remove coarse-sized plastic wastes.

Atypical parathyroid tumor (APT) is a rare neoplasm of the parathyroid gland, which shows atypical cytological or architectural features and lacks definite diagnosis criteria for malignancy. These cases can cause diagnostic challenges owing to their rarity and similarity with thyroid neoplasm on imaging and fine needle aspiration cytology. Also, differentiating APT from giant parathyroid adenoma or parathyroid carcinoma can be challenging based on clinical, imaging or cytological features.

Spilanthes paniculata, a member of the Asteraceae family, is predominantly used as a traditional remedy in addressing oral ailments, particularly gum infections and sore throat. The flowers are chewed to alleviate toothache immediately. This study evaluated a comparison between the essential oils of leaf and flower derived from Spilanthes paniculata targeting the SCC9 oral cell lines using in vitro and in silico approaches.
